My name is Johannes Schwarzenberg. I was raised in Karl-Marx-S- sorry, Chemnitz, as a child before moving to Berlin after joining the VGB in 1981.

Why am I here? That's a stupid question: what point is there of me remaining in Berlin, on my own, while the rest of my colleagues go and do their research in Antarctica? Not much, I can tell you that much from experience, thanks to someone whom I shall not name forgetting my name when they booked the journey south. I'm not some mere secretary, there to keep the office tidy while everyone else does the real work. I'm a scientist.

Hobbies? Getting my work done quickly and efficiently. That's why I'm here, after all. It doesn't make sense to spend time on anything else while there are tasks to complete and things to discover. …that doesn't count? How close-minded. Well, I suppose I like reading and the occasional bit of wood-carving.
