The US Navy has released a statement regarding its recent deployment of a combat group to the Antarctic.

“Following the deaths of American citizens Guy Drivers and Dr Isaac Burke while on mission at APERIS, and unfounded claims of violations of the Antarctic Treaty by ANCOM representatives on the base, the United States has initiated a freedom-of-navigation and logistic operation to secure its interests in the region. We unequivocally deny all allegations of overreach by agitators such as Linda Trace.”

This operation follows several weeks of rising tensions after journalists and nations such as Russia and China accused the US of smuggling weapons into Antarctica and establishing an illegitimate ‘exclusion zone’.

• Bruno, APERIS' chef, has resigned and returned home.
• Mateo, APERIS' primary technician, has transferred out of his position to an alternative placement.
