Going to Antarctica is an offer she couldn't turn down. ==What relationships does your character have?== William Harding. He used to be a colleague and friend of hers when she worked at Petrogon, but since then he has risen the ranks. They had an argument when she quit and since then he has become everything about Petrogon that she has learnt to hate. Guy Drivers. They cross paths fairly regularly in their work for Sceau d'Or, and are on pretty good terms. ==What are your character's attitudes towards co-operation with others?== Beatrice's time at Sceau d'Or has shown her that working with others towards a common goal can be extremely fulfiling if you can find an acceptable middle ground. Now she joins Sceau d'Or projects so she can meet all the different people the charity brings together from across the world. ==What is your character most afraid of?== Being pressured into a dangerous situation. ==Which Faction is your character a member of?== Sceau d'Or ===Sceau d'Or Faction Questions=== ==How does your character feel about the ocean?== Beatrice is a fervent environmentalist who cares about the natural world. She has been working for the charity for 4 years; partly to make up for her time working at Petrogon. She's been to extreme environments before when hiking and wild swimming, but Antarctica sets itself apart. ==How does your character feel about Sceau d'Or's methods?== Beatrice is very proud of what the charity has achieved. To her, working within the system isn't just the right way, but the only way. As much as she loves the wild, using the violence that groups like Terra Indomita employ to try to achieve their goals is unthinkable to her. ==Private Bio== Beatrice was born in Toronto in 1974. She enjoys hiking and wild swimming as hobbies, and the beauty of the natural world has always been a major motivator for her. After graduating university with a degree in Mathematics & Finance, she took an accountancy job in Petrogon's Tax and Finance Division. During their 5 year stint there, they earned over a million dollars... and assisted in the emission of billions of tonnes of carbon dioxide. As chatter about the climate crisis grew louder, she couldn't square her job with her conscience and love of nature, so reluctantly quit. After a couple of other nondescript jobs, she joined Sceau d'Or, and she hopes working for an environmentalist charity will help compensate for the damage done by her previous employer. As the years passed her role in the charity shifts more and more to that of a field researcher, bringing her closer to nature. Nevertheless, they continue to live a life of luxury from money saved while working that job. Beatrice fears that she will become persona-non-grata if this comes out and she is seen as hypocritical. Alongside this, her greatest fear is being pressured into putting herself into a dangerous situation in the same way she once felt pressured to compromise on her beliefs. ==Public Bio== Beatrice looks excited to be here. She works for Sceau d'Or as a field researcher, and is a staunch environmentalist with a zest for life and a love of the outdoors. ==Gameplay Quirks== * Qualified Ear---During her time at Petrogon, Beatrice made a friend who worked in the Chemicals Division, who she could ask about issues related to chemistry or manufacturing. * Survivalism---Beatrice has experience of long hikes and camping, sometimes in cold or mountainous terrain. * Diving---Sceau d'Or has given Beatrice some basic diving lessons. ==Playstyle Quirks== * Hit Me Harder * Romance Me =====Example 2===== ==What is your character's name?== Shi Liu ==What are your character's pronouns?== he/him ===General Questions=== ==What has brought your character to Antarctica?== Shi didn’t choose to go to Antarctica; he was assigned by the JCP. His official role is to provide technical support as a paranormal specialist in field work. ==What relationships does your character have?== Shi’s social circle is small.\\ Liu Lian is his commanding officer and mentor, someone he both respects and fears disappointing. He’s loyal and wants to be a good subordinate.\\ Shi hates Dr Artem, a Material Engineer working for Petrogon. They once collaborated on a proposed data exchange and business partnership meeting. Shi despised the man’s opportunism, and the meeting ended badly. It irritates him to see Artem again. \\ Shi is friends with Yelena, an individual investigator from Unit 13, whom he met at a temple in Yunnan two years ago. They work toward similar ends but through irreconcilably different philosophies, but he is happy to see them in APERIS. ==What are your character's attitudes towards co-operation with others?== Shi works well within structure, so long as that structure makes sense. Within Unit 871, Shi follows orders and expects others to do the same. That said, he respects competence wherever he finds it, and is willing to cooperate with others so long as it doesn't interfere with his responsibility. ==What is your character most afraid of?== Shi Liu has Nyctophobia. He is scared of the darkness. ==Which Faction is your character a member of?== Unit 871 ===Unit 871 Faction Questions=== ==To what extent does your character obey doctrine?== Shi would insist he obeys doctrine absolutely because it offers order and clarity in his work. He sometimes feels like they are too restrictive, especially when persuaded by Yelena’s questions. Even so, he feels it is a necessity. ==How does your character deal with secrecy and limited information?== He works with what he’s given. The less he knows, the safer he feels. Curiosity, for paranormal investigators, is a liability. ==What is the cost of failure for your character?== In the JCP, professional ruin and political disgrace are not separate things, but Shi is by no means politically ambitious. Failure to him simply means extra paperwork and overtime. ==Private Bio== Shi Liu was born in Beijing in 1975. His grandfather was a //yin-yang master// who helped the CCP relocate ancestral graves in the 1950s, and Shi grew up watching him read the flow of rivers and mountains. He inherited his grandfather’s fascination with Feng Shui and geomancy, later studied geophysics at Tsinghua University, where his fascination with the paranormal evolved into a scientific curiosity. After graduation, he joined Unit 871 as a field researcher, where his knowledge of unofficial sciences was recognised as an expertise in paranormal environmental study, studying with Liu Lian. His blend of superstition and pragmatism makes him a valued member of the team. Shi believes in stability and control---that systems exist to hold chaos at bay. He believes in the Commission, even as he senses it changing: new international partnerships, creeping corporate influence, civilians' talk of democracy. He tells himself that cooperation is progress, yet something in him recoils. Petrogon’s growing reach especially disgusts him. Shi wants the world---and the JCP---to stay as they are, even if he knows such a world may already be gone. ==Public Bio== A disciplined investigator with the JCP’s Unit 871. Shi Liu is a precise and pragmatic paranormal investigator, experienced in Feng Shui and field geomancy. ==Gameplay Quirks== * Paranormality---Shi’s grandfather was a yin-yang master during the 1950s who helped the Party relocate ancestral graves. He learned Feng Shui from a young age. He was later officially trained by the JCP. (I know it might not be exactly paranormal, but please consider that Shi knows Geophysics in this very unique lens.)\\ * Hallways of Power---A JCP internal auditor Shi once helped during a corruption probe, now in his debt.\\ * Well Equipped---Shi is bringing his kit, including a FengShui compass and thermal and electromagnetic camera. ==Playstyle Quirks== * Break My Brain * Make Me Cry * Romance Me =====Example 3===== ==What is your character's name?== Antoine Durand ==What are your character's pronouns?== he/him ===General Questions=== ==What has brought your character to Antarctica?== Habit. It's easy to make life decisions when one just seems to flow naturally from the other. You never need to stop to think or to question why. Antoine is an archivist at the BGA. His life is simple---focused on the monotony of his work at the BGA---so it is easy to pick it all up and take it with him when he goes to Antarctica. ==What relationships does your character have?== No one will be waiting for him back home, because they are all coming with him to APERIS. His social circle is his colleagues, and he cares about each one. He met Heide Allenbach 5 years ago when he was desperate for employment, and since then has owed her for giving him the chance to work at the BGA. He is close friends with Anya Collins, another archivist traveling with the BGA. He has never got on with Arron Meyer---a BGA researcher---who he inevitably gets into arguments with over their different organisation systems. ==What are your character's attitudes towards co-operation with others?== In principle, he supports co-operation. He had many grievances with colleagues from 'the Free University of Berlin' for their competitiveness and he nods along if his new colleagues talk about co-operation. However, he is happy enough to get on with working by himself. Cooperation and working together is good and all, but he's also fine on his own. ==What is your character most afraid of?== To be alone, truly alone. To have no one there to watch your back, to watch you. To confirm that you are still there, still being perceived, still real. Suddenly, your only company is the silence and the dark. When there is no one left to cling on to, it is easy to be dragged under and drowned. Antoine is not the most social person, but he does still appreciate company. The company does not need to speak, it just needs to be there. He needs to hear the sound of another's breathing, of life that isn't his own. That's why he always leaves the office with another, why he doesn't complain about his loud apartment block, why he can't bare the thought of being left alone in that office, and why he had to come to APERIS. ==Which Faction is your character a member of?== The Bundesgeheimnissesamt ===The Bundesgeheimnissesamt Faction Questions=== ==The BGA’s philosophy is one that wholeheartedly accepts the existence of the inexplicable—to what extent does your character agree?== He is skeptical, but it is more accurate to say that he just tells himself that he is skeptical. He has said it enough times in his head, so surely that is what matters, even if he isn't actually sure what he believes now. He is an archivist: he catalogues and organises. He doesn't get distracted by the details, by the in depth discussions of his colleagues. He has his own job, and he's busy enough focusing on that to worry about anything else. But sometimes he can't stop his gaze from lingering on a report for too long, second guessing a sound in the office, feeling the hairs on the back of his neck stand up in a dark room. ==Technologically and ideologically, the BGA has barely changed since its founding—what is your character’s attitude to this lack of development?== Frustration. The tangle of bureaucracy and outdated systems of organisation are never ending. For four years he has tried to change things in the BGA, and after every task he's accomplished ten more take its place. But in reality, he relishes the neverending challenge. It's something that he can dedicate himself to, to occupy his time. ==How does your character feel about the BGA’s track record?== He doesn't think about it. Deep down, he is embarrassed. His past self---who worked in academia---fears what his old colleagues might say if they saw the institution he was connected to now. But, that is a self that he has spent a long time burying. Now, he doesn't worry himself about the global standing of the BGA. Instead, he focuses on his own work and the people around him, who are much more real than an abstract prestige. ==Private Bio== Antoine used to work as a lecturer at 'the Free University of Berlin' after studying History and German there. He grew up in Marseille and still has family living there who he tries to visit annually. Academia seemed the obvious next step for him, but as the pressure, competition, and undercutting from his colleagues grew and grew he began to despise the university. His dreams of having an impact on academia vanished and so he began to look outside of it, determined to outdo his peers in industry, but after leaving his job, he struggled to find anything else. Eventually, after desperation set in, he stumbled across Heide Allanbach, who gave him a chance to work at the BGA. He is now an experienced archivist in the BGA. ==Public Bio== Antoine is an archivist for the BGA who always has a pen to hand. He is a middle-aged man with an old-fashioned sense of style. He has an thick beard, and long brown hair that is streaked with grey. Slow to make small talk, he is still quick to ask insightful questions if the situation arises. ==Gameplay Quirks== * Research---Antoine was trained as an academic and routinely uses these skills at the BGA. * Qualified Ear---Richard Becker (they/them), professor at 'the Free University of Berlin'---is hated by Antoine. But he knows they are at the top of their field now, and they'd be more than happy to show off if he had a question on history or language. ==Playstyle Quirks== * Break My Brain * Make Me Cry * More Gore sample_characters.txt Last modified: 2025/10/14 15:01by gm_xinyi
